@Jak: The best way would be to use a sitemap component that produces a sitemap.xml that contains the URL upu want indexed. Once that is created go to the site verification proces on Google webmaster tools and submit that sitemap url into the Google webmaster option and you should be ok. Reindexing will take some time, sometimes it happens fast but it could take several weeks.

You should also da check in Google with the search term site:www.example.com (uisng your own domain name!) and you will see that the titles of you page are all very similar, you should improve on that. The SEF patch of joomlatwork.org might help with that.

Once your site is validated in Google webmaster make sure to check the information that Google gives you for further improvement.

Hi i found this article very interesting, and unfortunately lately i moved from dynamic to static enabling the seo function in joomla, the result its terrible i had my website ranked on on first page before and now are disappeared from the serp :( using site:www.mysite.com i found that my articles are present more times with different urls (statics and dynamics) so i think this is the reason why i got penalized so badly :(
There is a way to fix this problem ? now i turn off again the seo option in joomla how i can say to google to not consider some url ?
using .htaccess 301 do i have to manually redirect every duplicate article to the right ones?
please suggest me the best way

I think static urls are better, my site is now on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th page of the search results when search Yahoo and Google with very competitive keywords, the site was just completed on the middle of the month.

@Heriberto: Don’t worry to much about duplicate content, just make sure you use the SEF URL option and the Joomla SEF Patch if you are on 1.5. Google knows Joomla websites and picks only the best url for your article. For me sef404 still works the best and you only pay a small yearly fee for the download. After that you can use it on every site you want.

AceSEF I just installed a component to remove the duplicate links and suddenly my site started to behave strange, because the addresses began to change even some pages that Google had already indexed the end marked 404 errors end up uninstalling this component did not help and end up that might affect my site, is there a way to avoid duplication of information without using any component of pay?

In these times were social sites, twitter, facebook and stuff are taking over the net, it’s hard to tell what’s duplicate content. If someone bookmarks my post on digg, mixx, delicious and other how can i prevent that my “duplicate content’ is being distributed over the internet and harm my true content and web page? In my opinion search engines doesn’t really put so much attention to duplicate content cos it really can’t detect what is true and what is duplicate.

sh404SEF is a handy component. Redirecting using an htaccess can cause problems – pulled enough hair out over that to make someone a wig!

@WohnDesign: You won’t have any problems, as sh404SEF takes care of the different URLs pointing to the productpages.

For Google that means it will get one link per productpage which is just fine.

@Introspective: My suggestion is to have different articles of article directories and for you own website.
If you publish your articles a couple of days before submittion to article directories you should not have that much of a problem as Google will know what article is the first published.

We are using J! 1.0.15 with VM 1.0.15 and SH404SEF at our onlineshop. To help visitors finding products, each product is available in a theme category and in a manufacturer category. That means that all products are duplicate content or does search engines know how to handle this fact? Is it a solution to disallow search engines to spider the directory /onlineshop/manufacturers by robots.txt ? Thanks

I think I have out-smart these search engines and just create my content in many duplicates as Screen shots png images with meta tags and links back to original.

SEO has improved significantly with each new release of Joomla. I remember in the earlier versions, it could get quite tricky to get all SEO elements resolved. There wrer quite a few issues with shared hosts, ht access issues and geberal incompatibility of the different SEO friendly components. Things have however improved significantly since. Jooml 1.5 has almost all SEO issues addressed out of the box.
